Martin began playing the drums and percussion in 1996 at the age of 11. His first band was Swinton Comprehensive Concert Band.
He joined Thorpe Hesley Brass Band in 2001 and has been playing with them ever since.
He has also played with Kingston Concert Band and Linthwaite Brass Band in the past but is no longer with either of these.
